The Z-Mill operator is responsible for all of the operating functions of the Z-Mill listed below. Operation of the mill must be understood in total with the focus of utilizing the equipment to meet all the quality and productivity goals as outlined in our quality system. All functions of the unit are to be carried out as described in the work instructions.

DUTIES

1. Check coil to be run for proper identification which corresponds to the program.
2. Load coil onto either the pay off reel or the tension reel.
3. Feed coil through mill to opposite tension reel.
4. Remove interleaving paper or plastic as required.
5. Load all information into the computer for rolling parameters.
6. Insert work rolls into the mill and following the rolling schedule, run the first pass at prescribed speeds according to work instructions. Periodic gauge referencing must be made during rolling. Adjust as necessary.
7. Stop the mill at prescribed intervals as indicated in work instructions and inspect both the top and the bottom face of the strip for rolling defects. Change any rolls, hose wiper etc. to insure the quality of the strip.
8. Insert paper into the coil during last pass.
9. Once coil is completed, remove from tension reel, band and identify per work instructions.
10. Enter completed coil data into the AS-400 system as well as note abnormalities (AQNS).
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Coordinate movement with the crane operator for coil and roll movements.
2. Communicate roll necessities with roll grinding department.
3. Change rolls in the mill box.
4. Grease mill unit as specified in work instructions.
5. Perform daily checks as specified in appropriate checklists.
6. Utilize all diagnostics as necessary.
7. Calculate rolling schedules and tensions if necessary.
8. Utilize paper interleaving as per work instructions.
9. Perform maintenance work as assigned.
10. Maintain proper housekeeping throughout the entire work area.
11. Work swing shift


QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Degree or Equivalent (GED)
