GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:


This position is responsible for fixed asset accounting, review and analysis of construction in progress, related tax filings and other related miscellaneous functions for all North American Stainless group companies.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prepares and assists in tax filings for all NAS companies, (partnership and corporation) to ensure compliance in KY Recycling Credit areas of taxation and other related tax incentive filings.

  1. Researches tax issues, as necessary, general accounting areas to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  1. Consults with NAS's external auditor, external tax advisors and NAS's attorney as necessary.

  1. Consults with Nas engineers and managers regarding Capital project status and details regarding projects and capital expenditures.

  1. Prepares and reviews financial accounting entries necessary for fixed assets, depreciation, capitalized interest, long term spares and other related areas.

  1. Prepares and reviews accounting entries related to insurance, maintenance, and other amortizations.

  1. Analyzes all capital purchases to determine proper classification for fixed asset system and to ensure proper depreciation for book and tax purposes and reconciles the fixed asset records to the general ledger. Reviews all capital and expense policies and procedures and ensures compliance with capitalization policies.

  1. Analyzes all capital disposals and changes to fixed assets in order to maintain the integrity of the fixed asset ledger and financial records which are necessary in determining proper insurance coverage.

  1. Reviews capital project contract compliance related to tax matters.

  1. Prepares sales and use tax returns for Kentucky and other States.

  1. Reviews construction in progress accounts periodically to ensure all projects are placed in service at the appropriate time. When a project is placed in service, analyzes construction contracts to determine proper fixed asset classification and makes appropriate financial accounting entries. Allocates capitalized salaries to construction in progress accounts.


  1. Prepares estimated depreciation and capitalized interest calculations for budget requirements.

  1. Prepares and completes asset inventories on regularly scheduled basis. Includes going into the plant for physical inventory of mobile assets, working with administrative assistants and buyers on furniture and fixtures and IT for computer assets.

  1. Reviews accounts payable invoices for proper management approval and coding. System approves and posts all E1 and iPayables accounts payable batches. Reviews and releases accounts payable invoices on hold.

  1. Reviews for proper capital/prepaid account expenditure coding of (OV) receipt batches weekly.

  1. Prepares CIP and Capital report data for New Projects department cash flow analysis.

  1. Prepares month end Cash Flow reports and other monthly data reports required for Acerinox reporting.

  1. Prepares miscellaneous government reports on capital expenditures.

  1. Assists in other general accounting areas which includes accounts payable as necessary

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  2. Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, OR

Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with five years of related work experience.

Experience in Fixed Asset Accounting and Sales and Use tax is a plus.

Good analytical skills required.

  1. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
  2. Fire Retardant clothing
  3. Acid PPE
  1. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
  2. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
  3. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  4. Maintain a clean and safe work area
